Royal College of Nursing

Educator: Royal College of Nursing
Course Duration: 60 minutes

Description

Chronic pain is common in childhood and can have severe physical and psychological consequences but, unlike acute pain, it is not always recognised by nurses and other health professionals. A holistic and multidisciplinary approach to treatment is required and nurses can play a significant role in helping children and families to cope with the negative effects of the condition. This learning module looks at assessment strategies as well as pharmacological and psychological interventions. It also discusses self-help programmes and strategies that can be used to aid sleep and help the child at school manage their pain.
